hepherd Day. I kid. It is a just a regular day, I made that up. But c’mon… aren’t all those National days imagined up anyway? I totally get National Bacon Day, bacon should have a day for being delicious, but why is there a day for Lost Socks???…google it up, it is May 9th. I feel like being sad for socks is silly, plus what if your dog accidently…maybe…borrowed your sock and it isn’t actually lost. Not that I would do that…I am speaking like a hippo…hippothetically. You will want to adopt me today, because I am FANTASTIC, the lady put the caps lock on so that means she yelled it. My name is Apollo and I am about 7 months old and look to be made of purebred German Shepherd. My current weight is 45 pounds, but I am still growing and plan to reach the 60 pound range soon. Normally German Shepherds are labeled with eufurmisms like “would make a great jogging buddy” or “great hiking partner” which is human secret code for “he has lots of energy”, but I am fairly low key for a German Shepherd, but I will still want WALKS, HIKES and JOGS! I am easy going and totally sqooshable. The lady cannot think of any naughties to write about me, except that I still could use some leash training. I make good friends with ALL DOGS and ALL HUMANS. So let’s do National Adopt A German Shepherd Day or more specifically National Adopt Apollo Day. Please email Adoptions@Godsdogsrescue.org and tell them you are ready for ME! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Each dog comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations that are appropriate for their age, microchipped, heartworm tested and on current on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $450.00 FOR LOCAL ( Local is in the state of Texas)! Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. IF THIS IS AN OUT OF STATE ADOPTION, TRANSPORT TO YOU is included in the adoption fee of $650.00 We transport all over the country!! All our dogs are socialized and we try to provide you a good understanding of the dog’s personality. Please visit our website for more information about what we do; http://www.yourtxrescueconnection.org/. You will also find helpful information about transport, our adoption application and pictures of our all our dogs/pups looking for homes!! Please contact us at adoptions@godsdogsrescue.org for more information about adopting one of our dogs and puppies or fill out an adoption application at http://www.godsdogsrescue.org/adopt/adoption-application/ Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescued dog, their LIVES depend on it! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
