kept on file for future adoption consideration. * Female German Shepherd Dog mix * Approximately 4 years old * Approximately 50 lbs. * House trained * Crate trained * Okay with other dogs, not sure about cats * Dog respectful children 8 and older * Adoption fee: $425 All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available. Health: Charlotte has been spayed and microchipped. She is current on her DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. She has been wormed and flea treated, and tested negative for heartworm. History: Charlotte comes from an overcrowded shelter in California. PUP was asked to help and we are so glad we did. All dogs PUP pulls from California come with health certificates, as required by Washington state. Notes from Charlotte's Foster Home: Charlotte is a sweet dog. She loves nothing more than to be with people. She really loves to sit with us regardless of what we're doing. She is most grateful for her time on our couch and would love to be there all the time. However, in order to teach her how to enjoy being her own dog, we've set up an area that is hers in our kitchen using a doggie gate and her crate. We've left her there when we've gone on short shopping trips and she respects these boundaries staying behind the gate and often choosing to sleep in her crate on her own. She's interested in our cats and has barked at them a few times, but she doesn't try to chase them while in her area. We have 4 small dogs and she has acclimated to them also. We did a planned introduction with all of them, one at a time and now they can all be outside together. Charlotte is very loyal and loving toward us. She has had some jealous moments with our dogs. The minute we voice corrected her she took a very submissive stance and sat. Charlotte is mellow and enjoy her walks. She walks really well on a leash although we do use a prong collar because of her size. At night, she sleeps in her crate. She whined for the first days of doing this, but has gotten used to this routine now. She would not be good for an apartment as she howls a bit when we leave. Note: The above description reflects the behavior we have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners. Adoption: If you think you have room in your home and heart for this dog and you reside within Washington State, please go to our Adoption Information page. There you will find more information and be able to fill out an adoption application. ATTEND OUR NEXT PUP EVENT!!! (click here) Can you help save more dogs by Fostering? Become our fan on Facebook! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
