opted out will be spay/neutered, micro-chipped, de-wormed,heartworm tested, rabies and relevant vaccinations. NO DOG WILL BE ADOPTED TO BE AN OUTSIDE DOG! Monthly Heartworm preventative, and monthly flea/tick preventative must be administered throughout the course of the dogs life. The adoption donation of dogs may vary. Please check out each individual dogs information for the minimum donation amount. The Application can be downloaded from the website, or feel free to email to request one. www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Indepth application, references and a home check will be required before adoption is completed. Anyone wanting to adopt a German Shepherd MUST have knowledge about their needs. These are very intelligent dogs that need lots of exercise, both physically and mentally. Please discuss and consider if you are now, and will be in the foreseable future, in a financial position to provide to the dogs needs, unexpected vet bills, and common health issues specific to the breed. PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. RODEO-Princess was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. SNOW is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 1 February 2016 and weighs around 45 pounds. RODEO-Princess is a very sweet girl with lots of love and affection to give. She loves the snow and running and chasing around outside. She was initially very nervous of coming in the door, as if she has not been allowed in the past. With gentle coaxing and her following the other dogs has been helping. RODEO-Princess is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. Since RODEO-Princess is slightly wary of coming and going through the doors, I don't believe she woudl be house-trained. Whilst here she is in and out a lot with me and the other dogs, but I do believe she has most likely had a time in her life where she hasn't been allowed inside. She is well mannered and loves to lie on the dog beds, comfy and relaxed. I would advise people to expect to give her some house-training just so as to not have too high expectations, but she is a very smart girl and I am confident anything she is taught she will pick up very quickly. RODEO-Princess would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both RODEO-Princess and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! RODEO-Princess is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org RODEO-Princess is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
