ION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Awesome dog alert!! Meet our latest addition and total beauty queen, Cassidy! We call her Cass for short. The vet tells us that Cassidy is approximately 1 year old, however, we wouldn't be surprised if she were even a little younger than that. Her teeth are just so white and she has so many puppy like behaviors. Cassidy has just recently arrived in her foster home in GA, after luckily being saved from a shelter there. Cassidy is a total lovebug! She loves people and loves other dogs! She has a great time playing with them or just hanging out in your lap on the couch. So far, no accidents at all in her foster home. However, we do believe you should expect and accident or two in a new home until any dog has time to adust. She is great in her crate and goes right in when you throw a treat in for her. She is tremendously food motivated, which is nice when trying to train a new dog. She knows how to sit for her treats and attention. She is very much a puppy still and has a good deal of energy so she will need to get her exercise! She must be adopted into a home with another playful dog and a home with a fenced in yard that she could play in, when supervised. She still doesn't seem to love leash walking yet so will need help with that. She tends to get a little spooked sometimes on a leash so will always need a secure collar when walking. Once on her walk she seems to do much better and we have been working on having her go to "sit" every time a car goes by. However, there is something about actually putting the leash on her that must trigger a bad memory, as it is a bit of a challenge. We're sure she will improve with time, but we are requiring a fence for this reason. We do not know how Cassidy is with cats. We know Cassidy weighs 32 pounds now, so she's a perfect medium sized dog. Her mix is hard to figure but we are thinking Shepherd/Golden/Lab mix. She has a beautiful fluffy golden coat. Because Cassidy is so young, we are looking for an adopter that will be home a good bit for her. Those that work full time out of the house for 6+ hours at a time will not be a good fit for this young, active little gal. Update on Cassidy 5/7/17: What a gem this little girl is! She is really great in her crate. So good with the other foster dogs in her foster home. Still working on leash walking a bit and jumping, but truly a joy of a dog! She is so smart and learning quickly that her foster mom will give her much more love if she comes up and sits in front her rather than jumping on her. That is her thing now - just sit in front of you for love. She loves to play with toys and teddy bears and anything she can get her mouth on so probably best if crated when not home. And, what a beauty too! She is actually up to 40 lbs now that she's got some good food and a routine going! We are going to require a fenced in yard for Cass until we are certain that scary things won't ever "spook" her anymore on her leash walks. We are hoping for someone that is looking to adopt 2 dogs and would adopt both Cassidy and Lexi (another dog at The Last Resort). Check out Lexi's bio on our page if you are interested. They really are best buddies and their personalities are very different but blend together very well. Cassidy helps Lexi overcome her timidness and they have a ball together - they are truly inseparable. Both are young and energetic, but are such joys and just keep you laughing with their fun antics. They are a wonderful pair. They are from the same kill shelter in GA and it's almost as if they know that and have formed this amazing bond. Be sure to watch the video so you can see how nicely they play together and share toys! We are not requiring that they be adopted together any longer, but each of them will need another playful dog in the home looking to adopt them. Any applicants must understand that Cassidy will be transported to either MD or NJ once their application is fully approved. So, applicants need to be willing to make the trip to either MD or NJ. Cassidy is spayed and up to date on her shots. ~~The Last Resort is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
