y as a clam to be outta the Hondo cage place. Hey wait a minute, does anyone actually know if clams are happy, I wanna instead say that I am happy as a…as a….as a….dog at the Golden Corral buffet. Just imagine the yummins I could swipe…not that I would do that. I am a good boy and all. Speaking of golden things like buffets and chicken tendies and French fries…where was I going with this…ah yes..speaking of Golden things, I am a Golden Retriever mixed with Hound dog, making me an 85 pound 12 month old (as of January), still growing boy. Foster Mom says if you look up “gentle giant” in the Dogtionary, you will see my mug shot. Even though I am playful and BIG, I am surprisingly calm for my age. I like to play with humans, dogs, or my stuffed animals and get rowdy, but I do take several snoozles on the couch. Even though I am 85 pounds of hunky cake on the outside, on the inside I am a 10 pound puppy that wants to curl up in your lap. I don’t know what happened, one minute I was Kia Soul sized pup and the next minute I had grown to the size of a F350 Super Duty truck, haha, I said duty, doody. Speaking of doody, I use the doggy door to do mine outside. I am looking for a home with a yard and prefurabley a family that already has a dog that loves to play, because my Foster Fam has 3 doggys and I LOVE to rumble and tussle and wrastle with them. At my first home, I was an only dog and that made me feel lonely and bored. I am also GREAT with kiddos (except for toddlers, I get too excited about the belly rubs and knock them down, ooopsies), Foster Fam has two human boys and they are FUN!!!!! My current Foster Fam doesn’t have cats, but my previous owner told my Foster Mom that I am cat approved. When asked if I had any flaws, Foster Mom ratted me out and said that my only bad boy trait was jumping up on the countertop with my front paws to surf for food. She even blabbed how I will steal food that is in wrappers. What she actually meant to say is “Buddy is pawlite at helping me out by getting his own snacks rather than bothering me”. That is what Foster Mom meant to say. To finish on the pawsitive note, Foster Mom also said (and furreal this time, I am not paraphrasing). “Buddy will make a great loyal companion for any family that likes big dogs.” So, if you are looking for a sweet, smart dog, please check me out...then email AdoptionsGodsdogsrescue and tell them you want ME!!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
