nknown My name is Marley and I am your 91 octane fueled very best friend in the making! I mean, don't get me wrong, I can be a pretty chill guy. Mostly after we DO STUFF! I LOVE DOING STUFF! Let me tell you a little bit about myself real quick. I'm a Golden Doodle and a Pisces. The Golden part means I'm a one finely-tuned, athletic fetching MACHINE. The doodle part means I'm pretty sure I could draw if only I had some thumbs. And while I hate to brag, it also means I have this truly amazing curly Fabio coat that looks like it's being blown by unseen winds and the ladies would die for. I will shed a little bit of it, especially when it gets warm outside. You'll probably want to take me to get it trimmed up some. I'm not really sure what a Pisces is, but I betcha it means I'll love you forever! I have everything a guy could want, except a forever home. And maybe a few manners. I'm just a young fella, barely out of my puppy stages at 2 and a half years old, so I'm gonna be a straight shooter and tell you, I'll probably jump on you when I see you because, YESSS, YOU ARE IN MY LINE OF VISION. I WOULD BE SO DARN HAPPY TO SEE YOU!!! And I'm going to need a lot of exercise because I feel this energy in my bones that just needs to be used. Did someone say bones? I LOVE bones, and balls, and all kinds of toys. I have this red ball like toy that's my favorite. I like kids too, but I should probably be in a home with older ones because I get so excited and may knock down or scare the smaller ones. I've never met a cat before, so I'm not too sure how I feel about them. You don't have to worry about your things when you're not home, I won't chew them up and prefer not to be in a kennel all day when you're away at work. I don't like being in a kennel, it makes me REALLY anxious. I have all my shots, neutered and micro chipped. I'm all ready for you to take me home so we can go on adventures together and be happy, good-looking athletes together. All ya gotta do is take the first step by filling out an application! But you have to be ready to work with me because this anxiety thing I have going on requires A LOT of work and it's going to take hard work from the both of us. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
