ept calling me an “an older gal that’s been around the block a time or two”. I beg your pawdon…I am only 6 years old and if you times that in human years it is 40ish. What if you went up to a 40 year old human lady and called her an AIR QUOTE older gal AIR QUOTE to her face. How do you think that convo would go? Go try it…I will say a little prayer for ya. Right. Six years is not old. I am wise enough to not take any crap off anyone, but young enough to still get my pawty on. I am a dainty gentle large lanky lady Great Dane Lab mix and weigh 71 pounds, but I could use a few steaks and burgers because I should weigh closer to 90 pounds. I already know SIT and leash walking, so check that off your list. I am great with all other dogs and if a younger rambunctious pup gets too sassy frassy, I easily correct them. I can handle my own. I am nervous meeting new humans, because life has not always been the kindest to me, but once I know you are nice, I will enjoy your company. I was an owner surrender to the city pound. My previous owners got me as an 8 week old pup and then 6 years later gave me up. We don’t know the reason why, but I am not in the bestest of shape. I am gonna get healthy and fit and then I am gonna go all Julia Roberts Pretty Woman when she walked into the snobby store with all her bags of fancy clothes and tell them they make a big mistake. I am moving on to a better life of a princess. I just need that carriage or limo to come start my fairy tail. Last but not least, I did test positive on a heartworm smear, but negative on a full test, so I am on some medicine for heartworms and will need to be retested to assure all those little blood suckers are dead. I can be adopted and God’s Dogs Rescue will help you take care of that part. My heart has been hurt emotionally as well, but with some LOVE and a new stable home with a new human that I can depend on from here on out, I know my heart can be good as new. In the word’s of Julia Roberts aka Vivian Ward….. I want the fairy tail!!!!! This precious girl is waiting for the right home.... is that you? If so, please email AdoptionsGodsdogsrescue and tell them you WANT me!! I'll be waiting!! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
