forms of exercise. This lovable lug is an adorably clumsy puppy at heart. Keane loves attention and thinks he's a lap dog, so if you're ready for some over-sized snuggles, this is the guy for you! No small dogs or kitties for this boy though, he's far too large to play with them and is still learning his own size. He likes to play rough, so he'd be happiest in a home with a medium to large-sized dog that loves to have as much fun as he does! At home, you'll find Keane playfully wrestling with his 7 foster dog siblings, enjoying his toys, and splashing around in a kiddie pool. Though he's big, Keane is very submissive with other dogs and will roll over on his back to show everyone he doesn't need to be top dog. He'd love a yard to play in! Keane's foster dad walks him for at least an hour each day. Keane knows how to heel on command, which makes his daily walks even better. He's learned ignore, leave it, sit, come, wait, stay, get, and he can't wait for you to teach him something new! This sweet boy is house and crate trained and is working on his leash manners in his foster home. He has spent some time with a professional trainer brushing up on his manners, so Keane is looking for a family dedicated to continuing his training and that understands the time and patience it takes to raise a young, extra large dog like him. Keane would do best with a strong, confident owner, due to his extra-large size. If you're looking for an adventure buddy, exercise partner, and all-around goofy pal, Keane may be the dog for you! The first step is to complete an adoption application on our website. This information is as up to date and accurate as possible for the dog in their current environment. All dogs and puppies will need time and training to adjust to their new surroundings and learn the rules of their new home. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, the first step is completing the adoption application, available with our adoption process on our website at .labsandmore. Your adoption includes the spay or neuter, current vaccinations, microchip, and other services provided while in our care. The safety and health of our puppies is priority one so we only allow approved applicants to meet and handle puppies. Please understand everything we do is for the dogs and conducted by our kind and generous volunteers. We rely solely on donations and we do not profit from a dog's adoption. Labs and More is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates on donations and time dedicated to this cause by volunteers. Your adoption will save the life of future dogs in need. Labs and More makes no guarantees regarding the behavior, breed, or age of the dogs in our care. Although we strive to provide necessary medical care to dogs in our care, we cannot predict future or current medical needs whether they were symptomatic or not at the time of adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
