ou want to lounge all day, he will lounge with you. If you want to snuggle, he will snuggle with you. If you want to go for a walk, he will walk all day with you. He’s a very easy going boy, just happy to be with you. He is a very affectionate boy. Such a love! He walks beautifully on leash. He almost prances while he walks, looking so proud with his tail in a high, soft curl. He thoroughly loves his walks! He gets along great with other dogs, and he needs a doggy companion in his forever home. He loves to play with them, and is gentle in doing so. He prefers playing chase rather than wrestling. He will NOT go out in the backyard unless another dog goes out with him. He prefers female dogs, and he is okay with male dogs. Marlo is a goofy boy! He’ll jump up on the bed and then roll off the bed on his back! He’s so funny! He also LOOOOOVES toys! He will play with a toy or bone for hours! He is an amazing athlete. He can swiftly launch himself right over a six-foot fence! His forever home needs to have a jump-proof fence (such as a wrought iron without a mid-rail for him to climb, wooden with the mid-rail facing the outside, wooden modified with jump-proof header, or eight-foot). He rides quietly in a car; after you help him get in, he lies down contentedly. He is super smart too! He only needs one correction and he ever makes that mistake again. Mr. Marlo is house trained. He is quiet, only barking to be let outside or to let you know that someone is at the door. He loves people. He would be great living with seniors. He is great with older kids; he shouldn’t be placed with smaller, young children, because he is sensitive to their quick movements, and he doesn’t like the way they tend to touch or grab him on his body. He is well-suited for house living or apartment living, because he prefers taking walks rather than lounging in the backyard. Even when he is out back with other dogs, he doesn’t want to be there long. We don’t know how he is with cats, but we can find out if needed. Sweet Marlo is available for adoption exclusively in the Texas area. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
