ss than 8 hours!! Meet Cupcake! Born around September 2018, this little cutie pie will likely be around 80 pounds when she’s all grown up. Did you notice her heart-shaped nose? She is eternally happy! When we first got this little dynamo, she had a broken left leg, a fractured right leg, and an injured hip. Through her surgeries, she was like “The Little Engine That Could.” She would chug right along with her healing apparatus like it was normal, and she didn’t let it get her down. She healed wonderfully! Cupcake loves to play! Squeaky toys are her favorite. Her forever doggy companion should play very gently. She cannot be around dogs that will jump on her, because her hip could become re-injured. She loves people and is very outgoing. If there are children in the house, they should be older than age ten. This way, they know not to lean on her or play roughly with her, again because of her hip. She is less of a barker and more of a talker, and mostly when she’s playing with other dogs. She says, “Aaaarrrrr, aarrrah!” Cupcake is doing well with her house training, is leash trained to puppy standards, is crate trained, and rides happily in a car. PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION: 1) These puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home. 2) Homes with youthful, playful dogs provide the pup with a mentor which facilitates a smooth integration into your household. 3) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone must be home at least part of the day. If you are away from home between 8-10 hours a day, please do not apply for a puppy as this circumstance is unfavorable for you and the puppy. 4) We give preference to applicants with prior Great Pyrenees experience or knowledge. 5) You must have a plan in place to properly socialize your puppy. 6) The FASTEST way to be considered for a puppy is to submit an application. We are continuously working through applications, including those that were received in advance of yours. It is very likely that by the time your application has been approved, the puppy may no longer be available. 7) Please do not inquire about a puppy's availability; the puppy is still available if the listing is displayed. Emailing for status updates will only result in a delay of your application review, and put you to the back of the line. All of the individuals responsible for reviewing applications are volunteering what little bit of time s/he has in addition to their own dogs, families, careers, and responsibilities. Though we do our best to evaluate ALL applications swiftly, submissions for adult dogs do take priority - there are an abundant amount of people that only want to adopt a puppy. All of our dogs require secure and VISIBLE fencing. Adoption Fee: $375 * Note to NW Adopters: The adoption fee does not include the cost of transport. There are many things YOU can do to help us: 1. Adopt! If this Gentle Giant looks like the one for you, fill out an adoption application today! 2. Foster! This is a temporary commitment that gives all dogs in need the assured time to find the loving home they deserve. Your benevolent decision to foster unquestionably determines whether a loving dog gets to live or die. 3. Donate! Safeguarding these Gentle Giants result in expenses that are in upwards $8/day. If veterinary care is needed, the costs exponentiate to $1,000+ for a single dog. Every penny you donate makes an impact when it comes to vet bills! If you were to make a one-time donation of just $25, you would be adding 3 more valuable days to the life of every rescued dog and provide the chance to find the home they have been waiting for their entire life. As always, all donations are gratefully accepted. If you are interested in adopting this dog or need further information, please contact GPRS at infogprescuesociety or fill out our SHORT application form. Every dog adopted thru the GPRS program is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered and on heartworm preventative.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
