re spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: www.facebook.com/DPSRescue This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-4pm on Sat. Jan. 6th & Sun. Jan. 7th or until adopted. If interested, please fill out an application if you would like the first opportunity to meet prior to the start of the event. (We will pre-approve one home to meet per dog.) Piccolo is a 2 year old Italian Greyhound-Terrier mix. She has the long luscious legs to make any model envious! She is such a sweet, loving girl. She likes to pretend that she's a bit on the shy side at first. But don't let that fool you. This girl is full of spunk too. She may present quiet initially but then when she's home, she's a lap dog, cuddly and snuggly and she's a velcro dog. She loves to follow her folks around and she's all about her people. You couldn't want a sweeter, more loving dog. Piccolo is great with other dogs. She currently lives with big and little dogs. She loves to hang out with them. She is an option for joining one in her new home. She could go to the dog park or doggy day camp. She is also an option for joining mom or dad at work. Want a dog who fits right in and doesn't make a nuisance? That's our girl, Piccolo. So you don't have another dog but still want one who is friendly with other dogs? Well, Piccolo is holding her paw up high and saying, "Me! Me!" Piccolo lives with a dog savvy cat in her new home. She's fine with him. He doesn't run. She doesn't want to chase him. It's a good relationship. Her foster Dad reports that she only had one accident in the house, then discovered the potty pads when necessary (he was working or gone for long periods) and that's all she needed. No more accidents! Piccolo could be an option for a home that has not had a dog in the last 3 years. She could also be an option for kids who are 6 and older. **Not all of our dogs go to each adoption event. We want to make sure if you are interested in a dog that we have the dog at adoptions but that can only happen if you fill out an application ahead of time and are pre-approved. (Generally this must happen prior to the weekend) **If you are wanting to submit an application within 24 hours of an event, please print off the application and bring with you as well as submitting it. You may still submit it and if time and volunteers permit, we will contact you. Most applications submitted the weekend of adoptions are not responded to until after the adoption weekend.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
