oster Mommy says I have to tell you about me so you can adopt me. Adoption is like graduation from foster school I guess. My name is Hoppy, just like Happy but with an “ohhhh” instead. I don’t just have a name though, I have a theme song….."I'm a Hoppy girl in a Hoppy world" the tune is to an old hit "I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world". The theme tune and my name suites me to a tee shirt, because I can jump eye level to my Foster Mommy’s shirt even though I am just around 12 pounds. I am approx. 1 year old and a few months, female, cute, blonde, high spirited Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix. One of the first things my Foster Family did was get the miserable blood sucking ticks and fleas off of me, ick ick ick. They might have sucked out my blood, but they did not suck out my spirit or spunk, that’s for sure. I get along with bigger kids ages 9-15, but Foster Mommy says parents of smaller kids might frown upon my urges to play bite and gnaw on people hands and feets, but “we are working on that!”, redirect to a toy, Hoppy redirect. There is a little dog and big dog at my foster place. I love the smaller dog, but that big guy sometimes gives me trouble, so I bark at him. I am adopting to him……..ooops I meant adapting to him, not adopting, I am not adopting a big dog. There is an outside cat that comes around and I wasn’t interested in meeting her, but I didn’t try to chase her either. I am house broke! Yay! And crate trained! Yay! I like to play fetch with 3 toys, not just one, it is faster that way and helps get my energy balls out. I am looking for a home where I can just be me, be Hoppy! For more information, or to adopt Hoppy, please email Juli at Godsdogsjuli@yahoo.com and she'll take care of everything!! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. ****Please realize that breed mix and size when grown are guesstimates based on the dog/pup's characteristics and coloring, unless we have mother/father in our rescue...***** ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $200.00 for adoptions in TEXAS only. IF THIS IS AN OUT OF STATE ADOPTION, TRANSPORT TO YOU is included in the adoption fee of $400.00 for adult dogs and $450.00 for puppies. We transport all over the country!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
