easiest dog I’ve ever known”. That is a direct quote from the mouth of my Foster Mom. Direct. Quote. Easiest. Dog. I really don’t know if I need to toot my own horn, because she just tooted it out of the park. They call me MayRay and I am a little under 2 years old and around 20 pounds. I am crate and house trained, smart, obedient, and happy. Foster Mom says I am a Sweetheart and to prove it I have 2 heart shaped spots on the side of my white fur. I have to admit they look a little more kidney bean shaped to me, but either way, if someone gives up a kidney or a heart for you, you can bet they are doing it out of love. I would make an AWESOME family pet, as I have lived in a home with young children and other dogs. Despite my mix being labeled as Beagle or Jack Russell mix which some people may consider to be yappy little dogs, I am not a barker at all. I am more of a prancer and happily strut my stuff to show off how proud I am to be yours. You might be thinking…why is she homeless if she is so dipped in the awesome sauce? I was left behind when my first owner passed away from cancer. I hung out on a neighbor’s porch and they took pity on my wee little face. I showed them what an affectionate, gentle, loving, happy, easy girl I am and they agreed to help me find a new home. But I had a surprise for them! Guess what! I had a litter of puppies soon after, so they let me stay at their place while I raised my little bundles of joy and now finally it is my turn to try and find a home. I would like to end with the same quote I started with “Probably the easiest dog I’ve ever known”. Right there folks, from a lady who has fostered over 10 trillionish dogs. I am a courtesy post for another rescue called Scurvy Dog Rescue. God's Dogs Rescue helps the smaller group out by posting me and transporting me to you, but you are actually adopting me from Scurvy Dog Rescue. So just email Adoptions@Godsdogsrescue.org and tell them you want ME! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Each dog comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations that are appropriate for their age, microchipped, heartworm tested and on current on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $250.00 FOR PUPPIES LOCAL (Local is in the state of Texas) and LOCAL ADULTS are $200 and Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. IF THIS IS AN OUT OF STATE ADOPTION, TRANSPORT TO YOU is included in the adoption fee of $500.00 for PUPPIES and $400.00 for ADULTS. We transport all over the country!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
