and I really do like being with my people. I’m an amazing lap warmer. I’m also not super active so I would be great for the older peeps and by peeps, I mean that as a nick name for people, not the marshmellow candies. *internal thought: I am getting nervous again, picture them naked, picture them naked, abort abort, put their clothes back on, put their clothes back on, that did not work, that was weird.* That was an internal thought, so I hope you didn't hear that, now back to my speech. I’d much prefer a home where we snuggle all day and watch TV or read books. I give the best kisses. Foster Mom says I’m just a love bug. I hope that means the good bug cause I’m not a bad bug although ironically the bug known as the kissing bug is actually a bad bug. Think of me more as a moth, a soft bug that eats other bugs. I’m a 10 lb Chihuahua. I am a year old so I won’t be getting any bigger. I do need to let my future peeps know and embarrassing situatuio. I do my potty business outside normally but if I get scared or excited my little bladder leaks and I can’t hold it. So that is why I am looking for a local to San Antonio family to adopt me. I think traveling too far would spark my bladder to tinkle in the truck. Embarassing. I’m working on it and it may go away as I live with you and settle in and we have a routine but I don’t want my furever people to get surprised if it still happens when I get nervous. I am ok with other doggie friends my size or smaller that are cool with me being the boss. I get Jelly sometimes of the other doggies around here cause I think Foster Mom should be giving me all the pets. So I need you to fill out the forms the rescue ladies need in order for you to spring me from Foster Mom's house so we can live happy ever after as long as you don’t mind a potential tinkle at first. So please email AdoptionsGodsdogsrescue if I will fit into your family ... and lap!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
