ive and is microchipped. Everyone is in love with our sweet, little guy named Todd Toad! Todd is eight pounds of pure LOVE! He is around 2 years old and appears to be a Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix, or what we call a "Jack-Chi." He can be a bit shy when first meeting new people, but within a short amount of time he will start looking for affection. And when it comes to affection, he can never get enough! He could sit all day resting his head on his foster mom if she'd let him! He also loves to snuggle up in her bed at night, and he doesn't move until the next morning when it's time to go potty. He is house, crate and leash trained, but he may need a little time to get used to his new home and routine. He is mostly quiet and low-key but playful. He does not like large dogs, but does great with small ones like himself. We do not know how he does with cats and children, but being shy, we think he would do best in a quiet home with no young children and not a lot of commotion. He would love to share his life with someone who has a lot of time, energy and love for him! He is good in the car and would make a great companion to bring along on errands, dog-friendly places and vacations. With some basic obedience classes, he will be the type of dog everyone dreams of having. His southern foster mom loves him so much, she said that she would love to keep him if she didn't already have a full house. When he first came into rescue he was very thin, but since then he's gained weight and looks fabulous! If you're looking for a lovable, huggable, snuggable, little cutie, then Todd is the guy for you! Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
