u about my special day I had away from the shelter because it was a very special day for me. A s we left the shelter I was so excited. I did very well getting into the car and I don't mind the car ride. I enjoyed looking out the window and catching some fresh air in my face. On the way to our hiking trip I was given several treats which I take very gently. I was so excited once we arrived at the park. I got out of the car and started to explore the area. I was so excited I saw ducks and birds, but I really didn't care about them. I was enjoying the cool fresh smell in the air. I was sniffing and looking around all over the place. So many new smells. I didn't seem to care about the little or big dogs that would come my way, I would stop and look at them and continue with walking, and stayed very calm. I enjoyed climbing on the rocks and hills. I LOVE attention from people, I would stop and wag my tail when someone would walk past us, and if you came up to pet me I would roll over on my back to make sure I got belly rubs. We hiked 3.5 miles, I kept a great pace and enjoyed myself. We came along another pond area where there were more ducks, I went right up to them and I just ignored them, they were not very interesting. Did I tell you how much I love being around people, and I love the attention. As we left the park we went to a Pet friendly restaurant, where I got to sit down on the patio and enjoy the sunshine. My day foster gave me lots of french fries and some of her sandwich, it was really good. I took the food very gently. After that we went to Petco where I got to walk around the whole store, I wasnt' interested in looking at the fish or mice, I was only interested in smellling the dog food and picking out my bone. I was very friendly with people that came up to me. Once we left Petco my day foster took me to McDonalds and got me 3 cheeseburgers, boy they were so yummy! Overall, I'm a very happy boy who will love to be in a home where I can show you how much I love you and the family. I would do well with a family that will take me for walks, give me belly rubs. I love to give kisses. Can you tell I have so much love and personality for anyone. I know sit, and I'm a very good walker, my day foster said I was a mellow boy on our day together. I'm just a big lover. Plese come see me at the shelter. I really want to find my forever home and shower you with love and kisses. Much love, Charles If you have pets at home please them to meet me,and your family. Dog intro are always recommended. When you come to the shelter bring my ID # which is A3938245 or you can send an email *Please Note: This animal is courtesy posted for Maricopa County Animal Care & Control and is at the EAST VALLEY facility (2630 W. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
