EVER HOME!!!! Name: Cooper Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Pointer Mix Best Guess for Age: 8 weeks as of 7/11 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 7-10 lbs Has Lived With: dogs Currently Living at: Shelter. Cooper needs a foster or forever home! Special adoption considerations: Young Puppy, requires frequents potty breaks and socialization; additional vaccinations needed & commitment to spay/neuter by 6 months. Meet Cooper! Cooper is an adorable 8-week-old, 7-10 lb, pointer mix puppy who can't WAIT to continue to grow and learn with you! Cooper is a sweet, loving boy in search of his forever family. He doesn't know how he ended up in a scary shelter but he's dreaming of long walks, trips to the park and cuddling up with you on the couch after work. He is a very young energetic puppy can't wait to learn new tricks and become the smartest pup on the block. Because Abby is so young, he'll need someone to keep an eye on him during the day. We do not adopt dogs less than 5 months to those who have a 9-5 schedule. If you do work 9-5 and are interested in taking this handsome guy home we ask that you can provide proof of a multi-times a day dog walker so that he is able to get out and about while you're gone! Cooper is good with other dogs so he’d be a great addition to an existing pack or happy to soak up all the attention as an only dog! We haven’t had a chance to see her interact with kids or cats yet, so if you have them just let us know, and we’ll do our best to find out! Cooper is not old enough to have had all of his vaccines. It will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, he is at greater risk for illness than an adult dog and cannot go on outdoor adventures until he and his immune system are ready. Due to his young age, Cooper has also not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 11/1/18. No exceptions! Like most puppies, Cooper will need to work on her housetraining. Cooper will also need to go to obedience school so he can grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Colleen at colleenb@Luckydoganimalrescue.org! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
