This sweet girl is a 2 year old pointer/lab mix, weighing in at approximately 45 pounds. Dahlia has a beautiful coat with pointer freckles and an adorable face!! You just want to hug her immediately upon seeing her! Dahlia ended up in the shelter through no fault of her own and is looking for a forever family to give her the love and attention she deserves! Could it be yours? Dahlia loves kids and her tail wags just seeing them! She is a gentle girl and loves everyone she meets. She's happy being around her people and is well behaved in the home. However, she does need both mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis to keep her happy and healthy. She would love to go on long walks, hikes, and take trips to the dog park so she can socialize with her canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, she'd love to shower her new forever family with tons of kisses and cuddles! Dahlia just wants to be part of your life! Dahlia gets along great with other dogs so she'd be a great addition to an existing pack, or would be happy soaking up all of the love and attention for herself! She should not live with cats, as she has a tendency to chase them. Dahlia is also looking forward to attending obedience school to work on her doggie manners and impress her new family. FOSTER UPDATE #1: "Dahlia is a wonderful dog. She is friendly, good with visitors and other dogs, smart, and super gentle. She loves our kid and loves to lay on the couch with him. Her tail just starts wagging when she sees kids. She really likes to run and needs to work on her leash skills, but otherwise is pretty happy to be a couch potato while in the house. She is house trained and shows no signs of any food aggression." FOSTER UPDATE #2: "Dahlia is an AMAZING family dog. She adores our children (7 and 9) and has personally assigned herself the job of waking up our daughter with a snuggle each morning. We have other families over frequently and everyone remarks on how Dahlia is so wonderful with strangers. She doesn't jump on people and she is never rough with children. Dahlia is terrific with other dogs -- she loves the dog park and we bring her there all the time. She is not a big barker - she only really barks when she thinks she's protecting us. She is a wonderful snuggler and is absolutely a member of our family. She loves rawhides but doesn't chew on things she is not supposed to so she can be left alone without shoe and furniture destruction! She's just 2 so she has a lot of energy - she loves going on walks, to the dog part or for runs with her foster dad. We can't think of a better dog!" Dahlia will make a GREAT companion and family member; you won’t regret opening your heart and home to this sweet girl! Like most shelter dogs, Dahlia may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained. Dahlia has tested positive and been treated for for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
