Name: Kokomo Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Pointer Mix Best Guess for Age: 12 weeks SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 14lbs Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: ADOPTION PENDING! Kokomo has an adopter waiting for her when she arrives in the area, but she hopes you will consider one of our other lucky dogs! Special adoption considerations: CRAZY PUPPY BABY! Due to Kokomo's tender age she cannot be left for more than 2-3 hours at a time. Applicants who are away from the home for 8+ hours daily MUST provide PROOF of a MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY DOG WALKING COMMITMENT PRIOR TO ADOPTION. Off in a South Carolina Shelter, there's a puppy called Kokomo That's pup you want to adopt and take her away from it all Puppy wiggles and lots of puppies kisses on your hand, You'll be falling in love like you never planned When you adopt Kokomo... Hiya peoples! Kokomo here. I'm a sweet li'l girl just looking for a place to land. Do you have room in your heart and home for a girl like me? I'd love to take long walks (maybe on the beach in the summer), but in the meantime I'll take the suburbs or the DC streets. I'd love to chase those fall leaves that have just hit the ground and head to the doggie park to make lots of friends. Don't forget to get in me in some doggie training classes I want to show you I'm not just a pretty face. So whattya say...you ready to take me away from it all...and hold me in your heart forever? Well fill out that application! I'm waiting! Kokomo is not old enough to have had all of her vaccines. It will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, she is at greater risk for illness than an adult dog. Due to her young age, Kokomo has not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 25 JAN 18. Like most puppies, Kokomo will need to work on her housetraining. Kokomo will also need to go to obedience school so she can grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
