r is nowhere around - he just left me at the front desk. He said he had no time for me and left me there. What did he think they were going to do with me? Did he not see or hear all the dogs? Did he really think that I was going to get adopted out of that shelter - he was out of his mind!!!!! Luckily EAPL heard about me and they took me after I was in the shelter for over 31 days! I was desperate to get out as I was on the "list." So here I am, aren't I cute with my long ears, perfect medium weight 31 pounds and well let's face it, my gorgeous brown coloring is just not showing through on these mug shots. BUT my foster mom will take some glamorous shots once I get to her home... right Carrie? So I have have my vaccines, I have been spayed. I am about 1 yo. EAPL gave me a birthday of 5/20/2016 I am a good girl inside my kennel; I wait and wait and wait for them to take me to the grass (some days it is so hard but I want my kennel clean!) My owner did not take care of me and did not give me monthly heartworm preventative and I got bit by a mosquito so you know the rest... I have to go through heartworm treatment. BUT EAPL said they will take care of me and get me all fixed up for you so no worries. So that is it about me, now share a little about you and put in an application and let Carrie and me read and talk and find me a great home! EAPL will work with her adopter's on her heartworm treatment. EAPL will cover the cost associated with her heartworm treatments (the immedicide injections and her 6mo follow up blood test to insure she is cleared.) We have worked with many HW positive dogs and we have an amazing team of vet's that have successfully treated our dogs. The treatment usually lasts about 2mo (with kennel rest) and she is non-contagious to other dogs while going through her treatment (it is transmitted by mosquitos.) Once her treatment is completed, she will be a normal happy dog! Put in your application today and one of our volunteers can talk to you about heartworm treatment and the process.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
