Kirby – A Handsome Devil Apricot Male Doodle, Age 1, 65lbs WARNING: The following article contains addictive cuteness and exposure can lead to the need for puppy dog hugs. Just kidding! It’s just me, Kirby, but I am pretty darn cute if I do say so myself! Kind of like a giant, interactive teddy bear that likes cuddles and treats! But can I let you in on my secret? Underneath all this fluffy cuteness is a lonesome puppy who only wants a family to love and be loved by! Could it be you? Are you the one? Now, before I tell you more about myself, I want to say thank you. Thank you for taking the time to look at a rescue dog. Thank you for considering me and my fellow fosters rather than going to a backyard breeder. When you adopt dogs like me, rescues can go and save another dog and it is going to take all of us, working together, to stop the insanity of the never-ending dogs needing homes. Normally, this is where we usually tell you why a dog like us needs a home. But frankly, there are just too many dogs everywhere needing homes, many of us, like me, end up dumped when we did nothing wrong. But I was a lucky one. I had been hit by a car, had bad injuries, and needed a whole lot of medical help. But here is where my luck changed. I was found in an orchard by an Angel Nurse who has everything but wings. She worked with me, nursed me, got me healthy, and even started some basic training. And if that isn’t enough, she hooked me up with the Defenders of Dogs and here I am – a foster with the one and only Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno! So, what are you waiting for? Behind this handsome apricot face is a dog who still wants a chance to be a family puppy! A family to raise me and love me and keep me safe all of my days! And me? Well, I am already a dog – one of the most perfect things on Earth – and I will bring unconditional love and joy into your life! Please? Adopt me? I have been through so much and am ready to start my life! Kirby is available for adoption through the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno. He is friendly with dogs large and small. Children should be older since he is still a big puppy. There are no cats in the foster home. Like all young Labs, he is still puppy like and will require training, patience, regular exercise, and love to reach his full potential. Additionally, Doodles require regular grooming, but it does make them extra cute! So, if you would like to adopt Kirby, please fill out an application at our website: .labrescuefresno If you are interested in adopting through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, you must first fill out an Adoption Application located at our website .LabRescueFresno All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines including rabies; flea/tick topical drops, heartworm tested and microchipped. Thank you for opting to adopt!! Adoption Fee: Puppies, (2 years of age and under) – $400.00 Adult Dog, (3 through 8 years of age) – $350.00 Senior Dogs (9 years and up) – $200.00 Special consideration may be granted for dogs with medical needs or bonded pairs.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
