Hello to all of you Lab Loving followers of the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno. My name is Jameson and I am rich-chocolate, aged to perfection, looking for a connoisseur who appreciates fine things. Ok, who am I kidding – I’m a ten-year-old who is getting to be a puppy for the first time, finding out how wonderful life can be, finding I have years of loving to make up for! Are you the one to show me a Wonderful Life for my remaining days? It is amazing to me the different types of people in the world. I was owned by people who didn’t understand that a dog is family. I lived in a backyard. I loved my family so, and they were kind enough to me when they remembered me. I was fed. But after years of loyally watching the kids grow up, the family laugh, the family ebb and flow, waiting patiently for my turn at love, I got an infection in my mouth. It caused me to get a tennis ball sized abscess on my neck. Rather than the vet, they took me to the pound to be euthanized. I was pretty much ready to throw in the towel, having no idea how special and fulfilling life could be. But, my guardian angels wouldn’t let me die never knowing what it’s like to be loved. They sent in their Earthly counterparts to rescue me and I have been reborn! Now I have learned that I love tennis balls! Throw one and I’ll go get it and you can chase me until you get it back! I like to lean against you and watch you, just so I know you are still there and it isn’t a dream. I have learned what it is like to live in the house and participate in all sorts of family things and find that life is a wonderful thing! I wasn’t walked in the past, but I am working on learning the leash because I am really enjoying exploring the world with foster mom and dad. Really, I have a new lease on life, I feel like a puppy again! Can I join your family, please, as a bonafide member, to have happy, loving days for as many days as I may have? No dog should die without knowing what it’s like to be family. Jameson is available for adoption through the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno. This house-trained guy gets along with dogs his size but wouldn’t mind being the only four-legged family member either. He is crate trained and knows sit and stay but needs some leash training. There are no cats or kids in his foster home, but he is very friendly and loving to people. If you have room in your heart and home to make Jameson’s Golden Years the best years of his life, please fill out an application at our website:. .LabRescueFresno.Org If you are interested in adopting through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, you must first fill out an Adoption Application located at our website .LabRescueFresno All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines including rabies; flea/tick topical drops, heartworm tested and microchipped. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
