AGE OR DATE OF BIRTH: 4 years old (2-6-19) WEIGHT: 38 pounds HOUSE BROKEN : yes BREED or MIX (best guess): mutt, looks like a mini greyhound SPAYED: yes VACCINATED: current as of 6-29-23 IF VACCINATED- Can you provide documentation/vet records to support their vaccine history? Yes ON HEARTWORM PREVENTION? Yes ON FLEA/TICK PREVENTION? Yes GOOD WITH KIDS: Extremely loving with our 4 kids. Very loving even around babies and toddlers who pull her curly tail. She has been an excellent dog with our kids for the past 4 years and we hope to find another home for her with kids because she truly is so sweet and amazing with children. GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS: We have 3 dogs and she is super friendly and playful with them. She barks at unfamiliar dogs and does need time to adjust to new dogs. GOOD WITH CATS: Unsure, but probably would need to be introduced slowly until she became familiar with any new pet. OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOG: She is named Zippy for a reason- she is FAST and loves to run and get her zoomies out. Our yard is small but she goes with us to my parents’ house in the country and she absolutely loves to run around and is always good about staying close and coming back inside with us. She would make an excellent farm dog. The kids walk her in the neighborhood and she does not pull; she even runs next to the kids when they use their scooter to walk her so she can run. She is a great watchdog and she has a territorial prey instinct try to chase every critter from the yard. She is used to sleeping with the kids in the bed with them, but is also happy anywhere in the house at night. She does not like to be in a crate, but honestly has no behavioral issues that make a crate necessary. She does fine when we board her for vacations. She is perfectly house trained and does not chew anything except her toys/bones. She is super playful and will catch balls that you throw up to her, and she is so sweet and loving and will sit next to you on the couch and snuggle. Please ask me any questions you have as we desire to find the best fit for Zippy.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
