asons to be too busy to post him. We love him so much and it would be so easy to say he needs us. But Boulder just loves people. And every person he has met at our home, he’d be happy to follow. He’s just that easy. And I know there’s a family out there that has been waiting for the perfect companion. I don’t know his story. I don’t know his past. I know he was seized for neglect. He was overweight and couldn’t walk at the shelter. When he arrived at our home, he hobbled in the door and collapsed.... He immediately started a boot camp life. He had to walk several times a day and agree to a strict diet. Many times at 4:40ish he would start yelling for his supper. After a few days of shrinking his intake, his body adjusted and the complaining stopped. He now goes with the follow of our crazy routine. He loves to walk and will pull me each time to walk farther and farther. He’s very happy to walk, explore and socialize. Anyone that stops is a friend! To see the way this dog was at the shelter vs today is astonishing. Boulder has lost a good bit of weight. He was 119 when he was seized. He is now close to 100...it’s been over a week since he’s seen the vet so I don’t have an accurate weight. In the beginning life had to come to him. Now he follows us everywhere and moves around the house for whatever he wants. There is nothing holding him back now. On day one I would have told you he should be an only dog. But with space, time, patience, love and understanding, he LOVES being part of a pack. He loves to play, tug, follow and sleep with our dogs. Our dogs gave him the space to adjust and know he was safe and loved. Boulder is NOT a morning person. He really likes to sleep in until about 10am. Anything before that and he puts his paw up over his eyes and ignores our early morning shenanigans. You can put a leash on him but he is a boulder and won’t move. You can put food in front of him and he will refuse it. The boy just likes his morning rest. He is not meant for the early birds. Like any day of the week. No thank you. Boulder would make a great addition to any home! He does have some medical needs which are quite simple, pain meds for his joints and a pill for his thyroid. I just picked up his meds from Wegman’s (prescribed by the vet, called into a regular pharmacy) and the cost was $40 for a two week supply. Anyone interested in adopting Boulder should know that he comes with that need. We did a two week supply because the vet wanted to check his levels which all came back perfect. So now we will refill his meds on a monthly basis. He is currently eating a Science Diet formula for weight loss but will be just fine on any food as long as it’s the appropriate amount, twice a day. We have not been giving treats/snacks. I think once he’s at a healthy weight and maintaining, he would be very happy to have that added into his life!! Boulder just celebrated his 11th birthday. He is the perfect gentleman and knows all his manners. He has never had an accident in the house and he has always had free roam. He is the perfect dog ️ PLEASE NOTE: While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
