ing years ahead of him. His soulful eyes tell the story of his warmth and charm. Do not wait another minute to meet Todd. Todd is a labrador retriever mix at around 14 pounds and he will grow leaps and bounds before he reaches adulthood. We can only take a guess, but we are estimating that he will be a large boy, over 50 pounds when fully grown. Todd came into rescue when discovered that he was living under a house with his littermates. With lack of early socialization, Todd is a shy and reserved boy that will need a quiet home for which he will require patience and time to find and develop his confidence. Todd radiates sweetness and will need time to adjust and trust people. With proper introductions, he will be accepting of other dogs, cats and kids. It will be a process for Todd to feel comfortable so his family will need to dedicate time and effort to facilitate good experiences so Todd can be all that he can be. He might benefit from a confident canine sibling to which he can learn from. Once Todd has learned to trust his humans he will act like a typical puppy - running around and pouncing on his toys, coming for affection and giving kisses! When he warms up to feeling comfortable, he is all puppy love. All of his house, crate and leash training are in progress. He is working hard on all three skills, but he knows that mastering his skill set will set him up for gold star status for his family and for him. Todd aims to please so he will be doing all he can to achieve his goals. As with all puppies, Todd is full of curiosity and wonderment, and is ready to grow from adorable puppy to amazing dog with the right guidance and patience. He will need a home with someone who has the time, desire and energy to train and socialize him so that he can become the perfect lifelong companion. With so much potential, we know that our Todd will be scooped up quickly. Todd is ready, willing and able to move into his new home and be all his family can hope for and more. The adoption fee for Todd is $600. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
