t that awesome? Who thought of that? Well anyway let me tell you a little about myself. I’m a silly, goofy big puff ball of a dog. I’m always happy. Like seriously what is there to be sad about? Well I guess I could be sad that I lost my home and I’m only one year old but who wants to get down about stuff like that? I’m good now. I found a bunch of kids at a school and turns out this wonderful rescue woman works for that school system and she took me into Help A Dog Smile and geesh is this rescue great! They give me food and treats and they’re teaching me all kinds of things. My foster dad taught me to sit, lie down, and shake in about five minutes then my foster people stood around in awe saying “wow he’s smart”! I guess that’s a good thing! But it also means I need a furever family that will keep me entertained. My foster mum gave me a bath and I loved it! She put all this delicious smelling soap all over me and I licked it up! Then she cleaned me all over even between my toes and none of it bothered me at all. I thought it was great! I’ll take a bath any day! And now my coat is all shiny and they say I look handsome! I may like to swim in a pool but I there isn’t one at my foster family’s house to try. I would be a GREAT walking/hiking/running companion … but of course when it’s cooler out … let’s not get carried away I’m obviously a big black dog and shouldn’t go out in the extreme heat. I like my AC too ya know! But when the weather’s cooler, let’s hit the trails … you and me!! I’m dog friendly, good with all people, and good with older kids … I don’t know my own size and may knock down little ones by accident. I always have a giant smile on my face and greet everyone with a hand shake. And watch out cuz if you let me I’ll sit in your lap! Who says I’m too big for that? I’m only 56 pounds LOL! If you decide to love me forezer I will shower you with kisses, hugs, and good times wherever we go together. I am up to date on vaccinations. I have a microchip and I have been neutered ... do not even get me started about that one but I guess a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do to be responsible. If you are interested in making me permanent members of your family, please fill out our online application. My adoption fee is $175.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
