Peaches - Yellow Female X, 8 months old, 40lbs. Hello new friends! My name is Peaches, what is your name? Are you looking for a sweet little lady who is full of love and loyalty? Then look no further – I am the one for you! I am an adorable young pup who is seeking a forever family to dedicate myself to for the rest of my days! I had a very rough start to my life and I found myself at an animal shelter after suffering injuries inflicted on me from a very unkind person…I was pretty sad and scared, but thankfully those Defenders of Dogs at LRRF saved the day! I am so happy to be living in my foster home now, where they treat me as a loved family member! After some time in my foster home getting adjusted to the good life, I am now ready to move on to my forever family – could it be with you? I absolutely love to be around people and thrive on positive attention. I am still a puppy and I am full of that silly puppy fun!!! Like all puppies, I am an active bundle of goofiness when I am outside, I love to play and frolic and have lots of energy! I love to go on walks and need daily exercise to keep me fit and healthy (and use up some of my energy!). Though I love to play hard, I also get pretty tired after those play sessions. I love to cuddle close to you and I am very affectionate with my people. I have excellent house-manners and I am housetrained (I use a doggie door) and crate-trained. I have even taken training classes with my foster family and passed with flying colors! I get along great with other dogs of all sizes and I even get along with cats! I am very fond of my foster family’s young granddaughter and adore snuggling up with her. I am so excited to be a true member of a family – it is the life I always hoped for! Peaches is such a sweet and fun-loving girl! Is she 100% Labrador? Nope. Honestly, she is probably not a Labrador at all. But she is an amazing dog who needed our help and we stepped up for her. Peaches may not be a Labrador but she has all of the classic personality traits of a purebred Labrador – loving, loyal, friendly, fun-loving, intelligent – she is an all-around perfect family dog! Like all pups, she is high energy, needs daily exercise, and would benefit greatly from continuing training classes with her new family to ensure a lifetime of good behavior. She is a very smart girl and always tries her best to please her people, so training classes will be a breeze! Peaches loves to pal around with other dogs, so she would probably enjoy a canine sibling or two in her forever home. Are you ready to make this cutie a member of your family? Apply today to get to know Peaches better at .labrescuefresno! If you are interested in adopting through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, you must first fill out an Adoption Application located at our website .LabRescueFresno All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines including rabies; flea/tick topical drops, heartworm tested and microchipped. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
