Roger – Black Male x, 2 years old, 73 lbs Thump, thump, thump – can you hear that? It is my tail wagging so hard with happiness that it is hitting the wall! My name is Roger and I am so excited because I am about to find my forever family – yay!!! I am soooo ready! I had a run of bad luck and found myself on the streets in a rural community. Lucky for me a nice lady found me and took me to the local animal shelter, and when they could not find my prior family, she came back for me and got me to those amazing folks at LRRF! I am ready to move forward with a family that knows how to treat a guy, I don’t ever want to be alone and fend for myself again! A nice soft bed, a full food dish, chewy toys, walks, and of course, lots of love! Now I am a fun-loving young guy who LOVES to cuddle! I also love to play and go on long walks, but my favorite is still cuddling! And belly rubs…ohhh I love those belly rubs! I love chewing on toys, fetching toys, gosh really any game with toys is so much fun! I am very playful and friendly… a true goofy Labrador! I may be a silly fella, but I still know to mind my manners. I am housetrained, crate-trained, and working on perfecting my leash manners. I would love to go to training classes with you as I am still quite young and have so much to learn! I am an enthusiastic eater, so I am easy to train. I’ll do anything for a tasty nibble and a smile. My favorite things in the world are my people, toys, food, my people, and…did I mention my people? I am full of love and affection and just want to cuddle and play with you all the time. The highlight of my day is to see you walk through that door <3 Roger is one handsome fellow with a zest for all life has to offer! Not only does he have the cutest perky ears, but a great personality to match! Roger is friendly and outgoing and always ready to have fun. Roger gets along well with people of all ages and other dogs, but he loves a game of cat chase, so no feline friends please. Roger’s main focus is his people, he absolutely loves to be petted, cuddled, and snuggled! He would be happy as an only dog or with dog siblings as long as he still gets his fair share of the snuggles! Like all young dogs, Roger will need a family who will attend training classes with him to ensure a lifetime of good behavior. In classic Labbie fashion, Roger really loves to eat, so we suggest he eat from a slow feeder bowl to help him pace himself. Ready to share your life with a ~70lb lap dog who will adore you forever? Apply to adopt Roger today at .labrescuefresno! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
