BLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. WE CANNOT RESPOND TO GENERAL INQUIRES ABOUT A DOG WITHOUT AN APPLICATION ON FILE. You’ve heard of “A Fish Called Wanda”, right? Well, here we have a real deal dog named Wanda. And, let us tell you how special she is!! The Last Resort Rescue saved Wanda right before she was going to be euthanized in a horrible, high kill shelter in GA. She is just so sweet and we are so glad we saved her! Wanda is approximately 2 years old and we believe her to be a lab mix. We know Wanda is housebroken, crate trained and seems to be quiet and chill. She is also very loving. Wanda is really great with other dogs. She does great on a leash also, but she does get very interested when a squirrel or a chipmunk get nearby. This would be a great companion for just about any type of household. Wanda is spayed and up to date on all of her shots and healthy. She is making her way to her foster home in NJ and any approved adopter should be willing to travel to her in NJ. We will update with more information soon. Update from foster mom on 11/23/16: Wanda is one of the happiest dogs you will ever meet! She is house trained, crate trained, knows sit and down. She is well behaved on a leash but she would love to learn more! She is eager to please, her potential is limitless. She loves her foster siblings large and small. She shares her toys and even bones well. She enjoys playing with other dogs but doesn't realize how big she is! She would like to have canine siblings, but an active family as an only child is OK too! While Wanda loves everyone she meets small children may not be great until she has a little further training. She is a happy, wiggly girl and at 65 lbs she may knock down a little person by accident! Wanda is a pleasure to have in the home. She isn't a "talker", she is ALWAYS happy, and knows when it's time to relax. If you are seeking a good looking, fun, young girl with a great smile get your application in today! Wanda can't wait to have a family to call her own! Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
