r adoption donation is $500USD - this includes her flight home, a new kennel, and she has been fully vetted. Because flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. ** Our beautiful Sadie girl came to us when a good Samaritan found her and her sister sitting on the side of the highway next to their deceased mom. He couldn?t leave them there to suffer the same fate, so he asked if we could make space for them in the rescue. They were so sad when they got to us but have blossomed into loving and happy girls! Now that they are vetted, it?s time to find them forever families. Sadie is a Hound/Lab Mix ? she has many houndy characteristics (long ears, long snout) and is just a beautiful girl! We are estimating Sadie will be a good mid-sized dog in the 50-pound range when fully grown. She will be an ACTIVE dog while she continues to grow and an active and smart adult. She would be best suited for a family that can commit to consistently getting him proper exercise and socialization. She will be great running, hiking, adventure buddy for the right family. Sadie currently lives with other dogs and loves having playmates. She would be great as an addition to a family with other dogs or as a single gal as long as her family commits to ongoing socialization. She has not been tested with cats, but given her age and general disposition, we think she would be fine with a kitty companion given a proper introduction. She has met and done great with kids and we think he?d be a great companion for a family with children that have been taught to be respectful of animals. Although Sadie is an older pup, we don?t think she had the benefit of a loving family when she was growing up so she may have accidents and take a bit of time to acclimate into her new forever family. She will need a lot of positive guidance as she continues to grow and develop into an amazing family companion. Her family will need to understand and be committed to all of the challenges that come with a young pup, including potty training, chewing, kennel training, and separation anxiety that could be caused by leaving her pack. The best suited family will be one that understands that dogs can take time to acclimate to their new homes - which will likely include having accidents, crying in their kennel, and chewing on things they are not supposed to. Sadie will be best suited for a family that can provide her with patience and positive reinforcement as she grows. We expect our dogs to be adopted by families who plan to keep them as indoor pets and part of the family. We do not adopt to families who plan to keep dogs outside for an extended period of time, for example the entire workday. Sadie is one of the happiest girls you could hope to meet. She is very healthy and has been well cared for by her foster home. She has been fully vetted including vaccinations, spay, microchip and she has no known health or allergy issues. If you are interested in adding Sadie to your family, please visit our website to fill out an application. If you have questions about any of our dogs, please email us at adoptionsreggiesfriends +++This pet is being posted as a courtesy to a wonderful group called Reggie&#39s Friends who will be handling the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
