bout me! After you read through my bio, if you think I might be the perfect pup for you, please go to .allamericanmuttrescue/forms and complete your adoption application online. My sunshine doesn’t come from the skies. It comes from love that’s in my rescue dog’s eyes. I AM A SUPER SENIOR Kia is a cutie and we have no clue sure exactly what breed mix she might be. She is truly a mutt ... and what a sweet mutt she is. She has a beautiful chocolate/caramel swirl coat and the most gorgeous amber/gold eyes. Based on her appearance and her personality, she is probably some sort of terrier/(maybe) boxer/lab mix. She has a small bone structure and a soft body type. Kia is low/medium energy level, a very low-key, submissive personality and she responds best to kind words and patience. She gets her feelings hurt easily and just ‘shuts down’ if you fuss at her. She loves being close to people and though she has done well with crate-training and housebreaking, there is still an occasional accident. She will love to get a new forever family with a nice fenced yard where she can play safely. She has a playful side but she waits to be invited to play. Nothing would make Kia happier than to find a forever family of her very own who would include her in all the family activities. She loves to be loved and she gives back so much more! She would love to spend her golden years being important to a family. Approximate age/birthdate: ~mid 2008 Weight/size: 40 lbs Housebroken: mostly (still has some accidents if excited) Crate trained: YES (though not always happy about it) Personality: reserved and shy in new situations, sweet, loving, happy Energy level: low/medium Fenced yard required?: Definitely preferred. She should never be off-leash in an unfenced area. Does he/she jump fences? NO Leash walk: YES – needs more practice, but she tries to be so good Obedience training: Knows ‘sit’ Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK but gets very anxious at first Spayed/neutered: YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES Microchipped: YES Social with other dogs: YES when introduced slowly and properly. She is a submissive personality and alphas will bully her. Social with cats: No cats Good with children: Has not been around children in foster care but we think she would be fine with children 10 and up who are respectful and kind Adoption donation: $75 We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have 10 or more applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Kia picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpupshotmail if you have additional questions.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
