nce! I came to Happy Tails from South Dakota where I was a stray. The rescue told me I would get all the vet care and love I would need in MN while searching for my forever home. Are you willing to take that “chance” on me? I hope so! I am very playful, I love other dogs and am very friendly with people too. I have played with a neighbor cat and done fine. I am mostly potty trained, just a couple of accidents here and there if my adults didn’t get me out quick enough. I am really smart though so I am learning how to let my adults know when I need to go outside. I have never had an accident in my kennel though! And I sleep through the night in the crate. (my foster family has one in their bedroom for me) I currently live with 2 other dogs and we love to play! I also can entertain myself with toys and bones. I like to steal slippers and shoes too though so you may want to puppy proof your house some! I have never ruined any, usually I just like to lick them some, carry them around some, and then leave them be. Where I live now there is a big yard (not fenced) and we run around it and play chase and fetch. I am a good listener so when my foster mom or dad call me to “come” I do. My foster brothers are trained to stay in the yard so I have been learning by watching them and have done great! When we are all tired out we love to nap together on dog beds, on the dog couch, the hardwood floors, the carpeted step landing, wherever. If you let me snuggle with you I can do that too. My foster mom kisses me a lot and tells me how cute and what a good boy I am. I know how to sit, stay, shake and am getting pretty good at the “down” command. I have been learning patience too so I sit and wait while my foster mom gets by breakfast and/or dinner ready. I like car rides, dog day care, going to work at the office with my foster mom, laying under my foster dad’s desk while he works at home, going for a run, taking a long walk, you name it! I am an active breed so I do want to find a home that has a yard, a dog playmate would be wonderful, maybe some kids that like to play sports and I can help them, a mom or dad that likes to run or hike. What a gem this pup is! I adore him! He really needs his forever home though so who will take a “chance” on him? Interested in adopting me? Click here to fill out an application! Happy Tails Rescue Minnesota is located at 7940 University Ave NE, Fridley MN 55432. We are open for adoption events from 12-5 every Sunday and 5:30-8:30 every Wednesday. If there is a certain animal you want to meet at one the events please fill out a preadoption application to directly contact their foster family or check our Facebook page to see if they will be there! Their event attendance is based on the availability of their foster family. Home visits (video tours or in person) are required for all dog adoptions. All of our cats and dogs are INDOOR pets and are NOT to be left outside unattended (even in a fenced yard), or running loose!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
