y is looking for you! JIMMY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Jimmy Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 2-3 years as of 9/19 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 65 lbs Has Lived With: Other dogs Currently Living at: DC Area Boarding. Jimmy needs a foster or better yet, a forever home! Hellllllllloooooooooooooooooooo world! My name is Jimmy. Can I be your best friend? I'm not sure what happened that I ended up in the shelter, but I am ready to start fresh in the DC area. While the nice folks in the shelter say that I've been a good boy and they love me, I really would like to have a permanent family of my own. My dream family would take me on nice long walks (or runs!) and hikes, maybe trips to the beach or apple picking in the fall. Just someone who wants to keep me around and show me how awesome dog life can be. Will you be my person? A few nice volunteers at the boarding facility have taken me on a few walks and here's what they had to say about me: "Jimmy was such a sweetheart. From the beginning, he was extremely calm. . Jimmy was not treat-motivated. He loved attention when people passed him on the street, but did not approach dogs or people asking for it. Jimmy was calm on the leash, but that's because he was very calm in general. However, we do suggest he is walked with a leash/harness, solely because he is so strong. He did not know any tricks." "I walked Jimmy at W2. He’ is a sweet boy. He’s got quite the nose and is very strong, and will need some leash training." Like most shelter dogs, Jimmy may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. Jimmy should NOT go to a home with cats. The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to kyndras@luckydoganimalrescue.org Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
