Come meet LEOPOLD and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (August ) from pm at the Bailey&#;s Crossroads Petco ( Leesburg Pike, Baileys Crossroads, VA )!!!!!! LEOPOLD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: LEOPOLD Best Guess for Breed: BLACK LAB MIX Best Guess for Age: 4 MONTHS AS OF 1 AUG SEX: MALE Approximate Weight: LBS AS OF 1 AUG Has Lived With: Other Dogs Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Young puppy, frequent potty breaks, and socialization needed, additional vaccinations needed, commitment to neuter by 6 months. Well Hello There! I am Leopold, the adorable puppy, and I am a friendly, smart wiggly Black Lab Mix puppy looking for my perfect forever family!!! I am excitingly waiting to find my furever homes with a wonderful family that will love me always! I love to play and have lots of puppy wrestle sessions! I want to be home and be able to go rompin&#; around my very own yard smelling the pretty flowers! With summer here, I would love to learn the doggy paddle! What lab doesn&#;t love the water - but I will need some lessons please! My dream would be long walks, doggy beaches, doggy parks, peanut butter kongs and a cozy bed to call all mine - I don&#;t mind sharing with you! Since I am soo young, I will be a big responsibility and take a lot of time, lookin&#; after and training. I am a blank slate ready to be trained and molded into your perfect pup! I will probably be good with kids and cats since I am just a puppy but I have never lived with them officially. So what in the name of milkbones are you waiting for....fill out the application and send it to my adoption coordinator! I am trying to wait patiently...wiggle...wiggle...wiggle! AND NOW A FEW WORDS FROM MY FOSTER: "Leopold is such a sweet and affectionate boy. He is so happy to see and greet us every time that we come in the room. He likes his time exploring the back yard and is content out there and also happy to be inside the house or in the crate. He is super friendly with people and knows not to jump up on them. He is a great playmate to the other foster dog staying here. He would make a great addition to your family!” All our puppies, will need to work on housetraining and will also need to go to obedience school to grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
