e House! ROOSEVELT NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Roosevelt Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of 1/16/18 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 50 pounds as of 1/16/18 Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: A cold, scary shelter in SC and will need a foster or forever home as soon as he arrives to DC! Meet Roosevelt! This handsome and sweet guy is a 3 year old lab mix, weighing in at approximately 50 pounds. He has the striking good looks known to all black labs, but he has sad eyes that only a loving family can fix! Roosevelt found himself at the shelter through no fault of his own and is looking for a forever family to give him the love and attention he deserves! Could it be yours? Roosevelt is out of his puppy years but he is still a lab after all so he will need a lot of both mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis to keep him happy and healthy. An adopter who works full time would need to commit to having a midday dog walker or day care for him during the week. He would love to go on long walks, hikes, and take trips to the dog park so he can socialize with his canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, he'd love to shower his new forever family with tons of kisses and cuddles! Roosevelt gets along great with other dogs so he'd be a great addition to an existing pack – or he'd be happy to soak up all the attention as an only dog! We haven't had a chance to see him interact with cats or kids yet. If you have them, let us know, and we'll do our best to find out! Roosevelt is also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone in his doggie manners and impress his new family. Roosevelt will make a GREAT companion and family member; you won’t regret opening your heart and home to this sweet boy! Like most shelter dogs, Roosevelt may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. Roosevelt has tested positive and been treated for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet

  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life.
