young boy with lots of fun energy! I am seeking a home with another playful dog or a very active owner so I can get all of my energy out! Besides loving to run and play, I do like to snuggle and I am very food motivated, but playing with other dogs is my absolute favorite! A lot is unknown about my past, but what is known is that I was being sold on Craigslist and some nice ladies bought me hoping to give me a wonderful forever home. I lived with them in an apartment, and me and their cat were cool, but I just had too much energy for thier lifestyle, so they showed up at Second Chance and asked if they could help. I was so cute, and very dog friendly, so sure enough they took me in and now I am in a foster home playing with the other doggies in the house! I am having a blast :). I am pretty new to Second Chance, so they are still getting to know me, but what my foster mom says is for sure is that I am a sweet boy and will make a great companion for an active family! I like kids as well, but I am a bit rambunctious so I may not be the best with small children. I am still working on my potty training (the lady that surrendered me said I know how to use potty pads, but foster mom doesn't do that), but I am doing great with my crate training. I am a dog that MUST be groomed, so you need to be committed to taking me regularly so I don't get matts in my feet and all over my body. When Second Chance got me, I had matts inside the pads of my feet and they had to cut them out, leaving my little feet bloody. I am neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, have been dewormed, and am current on my monthly heartworm and flea/tick medication. My adoption fee is #275. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an app on our website. If you have other questions about me, please e-mail the Dog Program Manager at laurasecondchancenc. Remember, my size and breed are veryyyy popular, so I will likely get many applications. Please be patient while Second Chance processes them and finds me the best fit!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
