ipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, .dpsrescue for an application. Our adoption fee is $400 for adults and $400-$600 for puppies (each puppy will list their individual adoption fee on the biography). * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: .facebook/DPSRescue This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, Feb. 2nd from 12pm-4pm and Sunday, Feb. 3rd from 11-3pm or until adopted. However, we do meet with those who submit an application and are approved just prior to the event (by invitation only) and they are given the first opportunity to adopt. If you are interested in one of our dogs, we recommend filling out an application prior to the event to be considered. Applications submitted within 24 hours of the event may not necessarily be reviewed. Flurry is an 8 year old MaltiPoo. He weighs 9.8lbs. He has a non-shedding coat that is an option for those who have allergies or simply want a dog who doesn't shed. He requires regular grooming. He was rescued from the shelter and he was a matted mess. Poor little man had to be basically stripped down to the bare essentials and now his coat can grow in beautifully. We'll be looking for that one home that understands the grooming needs of these breeds. Flurry is very sweet and gentle. He's a mellow little man. But he also still has a little spunk to his step. He's not ready for the retirement home yet. He doesn't mind going about and meeting the neighborhood friends. He's been known to do a few zoomies around the yard or around the house (when it was raining outside and he needed to get his little energy out so he made a race track in the house for a few laps). Flurry is a cuddler and a snuggler. He will crawl right up into your lap if you're on the cough or your favorite chair. He knows that lap is warm and that blanket is calling his name... Flurry lives with some canine friends. He hasn't met one he didn't like so far. He is like the mayor of his foster home that has several dogs and then always has friends coming over with their dogs. As "mayor" he has to get along with everyone and that is not a problem for him. Flurry could be an option to join a home that has another dog, go to work with Mom or Dad if they have a dog friendly business or he could go to doggy day care. Frankly he'd prefer just hanging out in the house as opposed to going to daycare but if there's a friend who will take care of him in their home, he'd be just fine. (He's not going to be one who wants to go to a large daycare center) Flurry is an option to go to a home that has has or hasn't had dog experience. If there are kids they need to be over the age of 8.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
