My mom always had 2-3 because she'd rescue other dogs. He's lived with a total of 7 dogs of 13 years. If there is a new dog introduced to the family, it doesn't take him long to let the dog know he is the boss. Not only can she no longer have her little partner Benji with her, but our family can not have any small dog in our home at all if she is to spend any time with us during or after recovery.
