ons- drop us an email at infogreatplainsmastiffrescue . If you have questions about our adoption procedures, please go to our Pages of Interest on the left hand column under "Adoption Info." We answer email inquiries almost immediately-usually always within a few hours and phone calls are returned with 24-36 hours. GPMR does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. We must have a completed adoption application on file before meeting any of our mastiffs. GPMR adopts to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and parts of Colorado. !!!Any mastiffs being adopted out of the state of Oklahoma require a health certificate to be paid for by the adopter!!! Meet Goliath! He was found as a stray in TX and taken to a local shelter. The vet estimates him between 9 and 12 months old. He is very lean at 115 pounds and has a lot of filling out to do. True to form, Goliath is a big ol' puppy! He loves to run around outside and play. Also true to form for our "teenage" pups that come into rescue, Goliath's owners did about zero training with him. So his foster parents are starting with the basics. His adopters must be willing to take him to a group obedience class so he can continue to learn how to be the best Mastiff he can be! He is housebroken and crate trained. Goliath is doing well with the dogs in his foster home but we don't think he was socialized with dogs as a young pup, so places with large amount of dogs present like dog parks would be overwhelming for him. He would do well in a home with older kids (12 and up) but he's not aware of how big he is and will come running straight at you! He's a little too much dog for small kids. He is all puppy and still has a higher energy level. Goliath is a velcro Mastiff, he most enjoys being with his people. We'd love to find him a home where someone is home part of the day. He will follow you from room to room and even when playing in the yard, he's always checking to make sure someone is out there with him. Goliath is very affectionate and loving. He loves to play with toys especially the squeaky ones! Goliath's adoption fee is $450. He is being fostered in Shawnee, OK. Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
