cs for this dog. Websites such as Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet may not show all the information that we have listed. FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Buck is a gorgeous, young terrier mix boy. He is very friendly. He gets along so well with the resident dog in his foster home. They play and wrestle together all the time. He has not been around cats yet during his time with us. He has been around children and he is very friendly with them. He lives with an 8 year old boy and they are best buds. Buck is a fairly quiet boy. He only barks if he's playing or he hears a strange noise. He is now house broken and is doing great. He can go for a few hours during the day without accidents; his foster mom works from home and is able to let him outside frequently. He is crate trained and sleeps quietly in his crate all night. Buck would love to have a fenced in yard of his own to frolic in if that is a possibility but this is not an absolute must. He walks very well on a leash. He could live with another dog or would do well as an only dog since he loves people. He is working on his basic commands and learning more very day. So far he knows sit and is working on down as we speak. He also knows off and out. He is a very smart boy and would really thrive with some formal training. Buck loves to fetch, chew toys, chase after toys, do zoomies in the yard and play with the resident dog. He will also take any opportunity to snuggle up for a nap. He is extremely loving, silly and funny; he is such a curious little guy who tilts his head at every sound and barks at his own reflection. He is a true character! He is a big goof ball and so cute. He is a super snuggly boy. He chills with his foster mom and loves to nap on the couch while she works. Buck is very attentive and loyal; he lives to be with and around his people. Buck is looking for his happy forever after. He is going to be the perfect companion for a lucky person or family. Could it be you? EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Buck was surrendered to a rural animal shelter by his previous owner. Once BFPA was alerted we were more than happy to take this sweet boy in and help him find his perfect forever home. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
