and won't get much bigger than that. He's mostly housebroken, and is completely crate-trained. He gets along well with animals of all shapes and sizes too! He's the happiest little lap dog you'll ever meet, and loves to ride in the car. Tucker came to rescue after his owner phoned in a desperate plea for help for this little guy. Unfortunately, horrible circumstances made it impossible for his family to provide the care he needs. Tucker MUST adhere to a STRICTLY GRAIN FREE DIET. Otherwise he will lose his beautiful hair and become covered in sores and scabs. Tucker is also HIGHLY allergic to fleas and flea "dirt." So he absolutely CANNOT miss flea/tic treatments. He will need to be groomed regularly, and brushed daily, but enjoys these activities quite a bit. Tucker does have permanent nerve damage in his spine cause by being trapped in the birth canal while being born. Tucker can run and play (and does it a lot with his foster siblings) like any normal pup does, although he is unable to climb more than just a couple of steps because of his nerve damage. However, he will patiently wait for you to carry him up and down the stairs. Because of the special care needed in handling Tucker, only homes having no small children (under the age of 13) will be considered. A home visit will be required in addition to a complete application with veterinary and personal references. If you think your home might be the perfect place for our little Tucker, please contact us AND submit an application on our website at dreamhouserescue.org. No Foster-to-Adopt is available. Our adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter surgery, parvo/distemper shots and rabies shots (for dogs over 6 months), deworming, microchipping, flea and tick protection, heartworm testing (for dogs over 6 months), and monthly heartworm protection until the dog gets adopted. If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at http://www.dreamhouserescue.org . Call or text Sue at 513-484-9840 or Bonnie at 513-967-0007 if you'd like to schedule a private meeting, as this pet will not be attending adoption events. Sweet Dream House Rescue is holding adoption events this Saturday and Sunday from (12-5 pm) at the Newport Petsmart (156 Pavilion Parkway, Newport, Kentucky), on Saturday (12-4 pm) at the Eastgate Petsmart (650 Eastgate South Dr., Cincinnati) and the first and third Saturdays of the month at South Lebanon Petsmart (476 Corwin Nixon Boulevard, South Lebanon, Ohio).

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
