the 7 y/o child that he grew up with, but the boyfriend had younger kids that didn't understand not to hover and move fast around him and it was feared he would one day lash out. He has your typical Terrier attitude and energy and should really be in an adult home and he needs a home where his humans are home much of the time. He is crate trained and his human worked full time, but came home at lunch to let him out and house training was going very well and he knows how to ring a bell to let you know. He LOVES his toys and had a cat that was his best friend and they would play chase throughout the house. He does love to sleep under blankets, curls right up for a nice snooze and sleeps all night. He will need a harness as he chokes himself on leash as he is full speed ahead! We were told he would run off if not leashed or fenced, but we feel his activity needs were not being met as now he comes and goes to work with his foster mom and runs straight from the door of the house to the door of the car - all he really wants is to be with his humans. He is wonderful in the car and he's wonderful with all the other dogs from the tiny Chihuahua to the Great Dane that we have wandering around here right now. He was not good with strangers coming in the house and feels threatened so he will be one of those dogs that you will want to crate or put in another room until the company is settled and then, maybe, he can join the party. Carlos is a busy body and can be verbal at times, especially if he's not happy. He will definitely not be your best dog ever, but are we ever happy that we took the chance on him because you can't help but fall head over heals for someone with this much personality!!! I would also like to add that even though he is said to be house trained that some of these tiny dogs benefit from having potty floor pads handy when they just can't hold it. FOSTER UPDATE: I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this little boy! He plays so well with the puppies in the house and loves to race around with everyone. He is starting to use the doggy door but does also use potty pads. He walks past the cat but does also love to play with them. He is the first dog I've ever trusted off leash, he listens really well! He is still working on trusting some strangers but is just doing so well - I am so proud of Carlos! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $300.00. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
