5-27-17 (PM) Duke has been diagnosed with kidney failure.
5-27-17 Duke is not eating much at all today - not even ground beef & rice. We are picking up an appetite stimulant from our vet to see if it will help. He continues to take antibiotics and blood pressure medications.
5-26-17 Duke is not wanting to eat his regular diet, so we are preparing some ground beef for him. He had his first sub-q fluid infusion this afternoon and tolerated it well. Duke enjoyed the ground beef!
5-25-17 (PM) Duke was discharged by our vet late this afternoon and is now back in our care, however, he must have daily sub-q fluids over the next 3-5 days. His kidney values are causing issues with his blood pressure, so he is now taking medication to lower his blood pressure. There is a risk of stroke. He is also still taking antibiotics to fight the bladder infection. He is being closely watched.
5-25-17 Duke continues to be hospitalized on IV fluids & antibiotics. He did eat some food this morning, which is encouraging. We are waiting for an afternoon update.
5-24-17 Duke has been hospitalized and diagnosed with an extreme bladder infection, caused by his bladder stones and/or prostate cancer. In addition, his prostate has become very enlarged, despite being checked just a few weeks ago. He also has some blood in his urine. He is on IV fluids and antibiotics.
5-23-17 Duke is not feeling well today and eating very little. If he does not improve he will see our vet tomorrow.
Since Duke's foot surgery, he has recovered slowly, but fully. Now able to once again walk and be his jaunty ol' self! Sadly, Duke was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, which we are treating with oral medication. We are also closely watching his his urinary output, as his bladder stones can cause a blockage. Duke is not a candidate for surgery. He is enjoying his retirement years with two of our other long term Scots. They make quite the clan!
Duke has been diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma on a front paw, which is a malignant cancer. We have decided the best course of action for him, is to amputate the affected toe, as the mass is bleeding and is quite irritating to Duke. His surgery is scheduled for today, September 21st. Duke came to us as an owner surrender after his owner passed away. Duke has suffered from ear infections that caused his ears to fold. We are also using oral medications to help with his seasonal allergies. He is doing quite well and is no longer itching/scratching as he was. Duke is approximately 9yo.
All dogs adopted by Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc. have had a full medical exam by one of our licensed Veterinarians, which includes testing (and treatment, if necessary) for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, all necessary vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleaning as necessary, microchipping, registration of the microchip, and any other medical needs each particular dog may need. Copies of all available medical records are transferred to you when the adoption is finalized.
We prefer to adopt to families with past Scottie, Westie, Terrier (or similar) experience, but realize this isn’t always possible. We do NOT ship our pets. If you have that special place in your heart, and in your home, for a Scottie (or any of our other available rescue dogs), please visit us in Dallas for an in person meet & greet session with our available dogs. If you have existing dogs, they must travel to Dallas with you, so we can be assured that they will be compatible with the new addition to your family.

We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note: Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog. We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs.
