mega-esophagus, an enlargement of the esophagus that prevents food from reaching his stomach. We began feeding him elevated and then holding him upright after mealtime, which has helped him immensely. After several weeks of this treatment, he has begun to eat on his own from an elevated platform, however, he still cannot eat a normal portion of food, and must be fed several times a day. In addition, this little guy has been diagnosed with a canine version of Lupus, for which he must take three medications a day. Jock also has separation anxiety. Please help us with our extraordinary vet bills as we help so many of our dogs with their medical issues. Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Donatescottiekingdom or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355 ------------------------------------------------------- Update: 10-27-18: Jock did not appreciate being hospitalized and stated so by removing his IV, tearing up his bedding & toys, in addition to throwing his food across the hospital floor overnight! After another day in the hospital, Jock was brought back to the environment he knows and steadily began to feel better. After days of medications and a watchful eye, Jock is now fully recovered from the pancreatitis that made him so sick. He is now back on the 3 different medications for his canine lupus. UPDATE: 10-12-18 Jock has been hospitalized with Pancreatitis, which can be life threatening. Please help us with our extraordinary vet bills as we help so many of our dogs with their medical issues. Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Donatescottiekingdom or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jock is currently on medical hold as we work through testing for his allergies. Jock was recently surrendered to us due to escaping his yard several times It seems this athletic 9yo can jump over a 3 foot high wrought iron fence in a single bound! Installing a higher fence was not allowed by the HOA, so fearing for his safety, Jock was surrendered to find a home with a safer yard. Jock & ALL Scotties should be indoor pets and supervised when outside. *Jock is not available to homes with chain link or wrought iron fencing. *Traditional & well maintained fencing only. Jock just received a thorough dental cleaning, only losing one tooth to decay. All dogs adopted by Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc. have had a full medical exam by one of our licensed Veterinarians, which includes testing (and treatment, if necessary) for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, all necessary vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleaning as necessary, microchipping, registration of the microchip, and any other medical needs each particular dog may need. Copies of all available medical records are transferred to you when the adoption is finalized. We prefer to adopt to families with past Scottie, Westie, Terrier experience, but realize this isn’t always possible. We do NOT ship our pets. If you have that special place in your heart, and in your home, for a Scottie (or any of our other available rescue dogs), please visit us in Dallas for an in person meet & greet session with our available dogs. If you have existing dogs, they should travel to Dallas with you, so we can be assured that they will be compatible with the new addition to your family. Please contact us at Rescuescottiekingdom to receive an Adoption Application or for more information on our Adoption process. Also, please take the time to visit our website .scottiekingdom for additional information. We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note: Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog. We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your understanding, and for considering adoption! We are not supported by your tax dollars or public grants, rather, we rely on donations to help us continue our rescue work for animals that are in need. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
