fter you read through my bio, if you think I might be the perfect pup for you, please go to .allamericanmuttrescue/forms and complete your adoption application online. I AM A SUPER SENIOR! Amy is a clown - a mix of terrier and something that has BIG ears. She is 50 pounds of wiggles, love and snuggles. She is too cute – very loving, very sweet. Amy is aging gracefully, but just like us, she has some arthritis and sometimes has a little limp. She can still run for short distances but walking is her preferred pace these days. She does enjoy the fresh air on pretty days but she is an inside girl! She will do well with a forever family that will take on her on walks and spend time snuggling with her. She is so sweet and adorable, spending time with her is easy to do! Could you be her forever family? Approximate age/birthdate: February 2008 ... she's a sweet senior girl Weight/size: 45-50 lbs Housebroken: YES - as long as you do your part taking her outside Crate trained: YES Personality: happy, loving, playful, wants to make you happy Energy level: low-to-medium (lots of low-key snuggling) Fenced yard required?: YES - she is very curious and will wander if not contained. The neighbor's cats would also be at risk if she is not fenced in. Does he/she jump fences? In her younger days she could jump a 4' fence with no effort. Arthritis has slowed her down, but she should never be left outside alone. She does well on a zip line for a short period of time (20 minutes or less) or in a kennel with a solid roof on it (not an A-frame tarp roof) Leash walk: YES Obedience training: Knows ‘sit’ and ‘off’ – very smart and she really wants her people to be happy Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK Spayed/neutered: YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES Microchipped: NO (microchip can be provided) Social with other dogs: YES - she is a submissive personality and is sometimes bullied by stronger personalities. Now that she is older and having hip issues, she should not be with young, super-active pups. Social with cats: NO CATS Good with children: She will be fine with older, respectful children. Adoption fee: $75 We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have 10 or more applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Amy picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpupshotmail if you have additional questions.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
