you do your part and take her out regularly) Crate trained: YES Personality: rowdy, playful, energetic, happy, curious Energy level: Moderately high Fenced yard required?: YES … she definitely has the nose of a hound and will find herself in trouble if she doesn’t have a fence to contain her. She loves to get outside and explore but would be off and gone if not fenced in. An electric/underground fence will not be acceptable … she needs a physical fence. Does he/she jump fences? NO Leash walk: YES but she is constantly ‘tracking’ and pulls when she gets excited Obedience training: No Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK … gets a little stressed at first Spayed/neutered: YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES Microchipped: YES Social with other dogs: YES … but her energy can be overwhelming to more laid back pups Social with cats: NO CATS … her energy and urge to chase would be too much for most cats Good with children: Suzy would probably be OK with older children that she couldn’t topple over! She would not mean to hurt any child but she is rowdy and rough. Adoption donation: $175 We don’t have a lot of info about Suzy other than she was a stray someone had decided to give a home and then that home went away due to no fault of Suzy’s. She really is a sweet girl and she just needs love and attention … and training! Sweet Suzy is a beautiful little girl. She could be part dachshund or part basset … something long and low. And whatever the mix, she is very sweet. Her color and markings are stunning and her eyes are so expressive. She smiles and looks at you like she really wants to talk to you. She likes to play outside and often ignores the other dogs … but she really loves people. She would love to have a running or hiking partner to help her work off some of her energy. If you think Suzy might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online. We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Suzy picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
