call 770-272-6888 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week. I’m a friendly and sweet dog who was with MM’s a few months ago and got adopted by a wonderful family. Things were going along well, but then I got a bit too possessive of my mom and got into a fight with one of the dogs I lived with. I really like other dogs and can have playtimes with them and may enjoy walks with neighbors and their dogs, but I should not live with another dog due to my jealousy and not wanting to share my person with another dog. I accidentally bit my mom when she separated us, and I feel bad about it as that was not my intention! I love going for regular walks and hikes. I also love going for ice cream and to Home Depot! My trainer says I am bullet proof (LOL) and she can take me anywhere with my good behavior. Did I mention, I have great car manners? My potty manners were reported to be good in my previous home and were also good in my temporary foster home. I do well in my crate too. I’m smart and am a graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program and at the shelter I have mastered ‘sit’, 'stay', ‘lie down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, 'leave it', ‘go to place’, waiting patiently at doorways, and accepting nice strangers without jumping. I also do well with loose leash walking. I’m so proud and I can’t wait to learn even more! I like to play fetch and will drop the ball right at your feet for more, and with squeaky toys I will jump around while playing which is cute to watch. A dog savvy family would be a great fit for me. I like kids too and a home with kids around 10 or up is best for me, so let’s meet! I’m also sweet, loving and have been friendly with the volunteers I’ve met at MM’s, so if you’re looking for a nice guy like me, let’s meet! Energy level: 5-7. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
