Shepherd X the day after Thanksgiving. Dad is the neighborhood Basset Hound X and this girl totally takes after her mom with a slight wisp of Shepherd coat and color but longer ears that frame her face like a Hound. Should be a large-sized dog. First set of vaccinations/dewormer and heartworm preventative done at 8wks. If you are interested in adopting, the adoption donation is $75 and covers full vetting (vaccinations, dewormings, spay/neuter, etc) prior to adoption. E-mail LaurensZoo.application@yahoo.com for more info! ***Please check your Spam Folder for our reply. We send out a lot of e-mails and have recently been getting complaints about not promptly responding to inquiries. Several servers filter our responses as Spam*** ~~~AVAILABILITY INQUIRIES: If the dog is still posted then he/she is available. We may have already accepted applications but have not chosen one yet. Please send yours if you'd like to be considered. A "pending" status means that the pet is spoken for, but the adoption has yet to be finalized. This pet may become available again if the adoption is not completed within a reasonable amount of time. ~~~LOCATION: We do not have a physical location where all of our dogs are housed nor do we have "business hours". We are made up of a network of private foster homes and sometimes use boarding. Once we have received your application, we can provide you with details and arrange a "meet and greet" when possible. We require an application before any meetings will be arranged. ~~~CATS/KIDS & DOGS: If we don't specifically mention cats/kids in the bio then we don't know exactly how a particular dog will react to them. If we suspect there will be aggression then we will say no to cats/kids. However, every dog needs to be introduced correctly to a house with cats or kids in it. Each dog and each cat/kid will have different chemistry together so there is no way to tell how they will act until the dog is in the home. Puppies less than one year of age can always go to a home with cats or kids, but they too need to learn. With a little effort, dogs and cats/kids can live together...but don't forget that dogs will be dogs so sometimes you will need to step in. ~~~OUT-OF-STATE ADOPTIONS: We will consider adopting to all states, but transport options are limited to some areas. Adopters are responsible for all additional fees associated with transporting a pet out-of-state.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
