learning to potty outside. Honey loves to snuggle, give face kisses, is super friendly and likes to follow her foster mom everywhere. She has been good with children although there isn't any interest in playing with them. She lived with a 1 year old child and cats prior to coming to her present foster home. Honey does enjoy laying on the back of the couch and looking out the window. She likes to go outside in the fenced yard and will come right back to the door when she is done. She comes pretty good to her name and loves to be with her person most of all. She will sit on your lap or even try it on your shoulder at times. She is learning to sit, take treats gently and does a very cute sit up with both her paws moving, Honey is a pretty typical little Yorkie and will bark when new people come in. Honey does well in a crate and can even share it with her sister. Honey and Roxie also can share food and water with no issues. Since Honey and Roxie have lived together for 3 years, are litter mates and are perfect together, they would like to find a home who will keep them together and adopt them both. If you’re looking for a lovable, friendly, snuggle bug, Honey is your girl! All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped. Please fill out an adoption application and start the process for your new family member! AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals that come into our rescue looking for homes don’t bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets’ ages. Sometimes we don’t. So we make our best guess based on the condition of their teeth and the veterinarians best guess. BREED DISCLAIMER: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label . Microchips: For the safety of our dogs and peace of mind of our fosters and adopters, STAR microchips all dogs prior to adoption with Petlink Microchips. Please understand that all dogs MUST still wear a collar with ID tags (which include your current information) AT ALL TIMES. Please remember, our foster dogs are extremely important to us-- we will always take any of our dogs back, if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. Never surrender him/her to a shelter!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
