i.org/aa Adoption Donation $ 499 Located: in Rhode Island Age: approx 1 year old Weight: 33 lbs Hi! My name is Penny; I am a hound mix from Mississippi. I weight about 36lbs and I am about 1.5 years old. I was a stray for a long time in MS and one day a homeless man let me stay next to him for a little while. He was very nice and bought a big bag of dog food for me. But he knew he could not afford to keep feeding me and he was worried because it was starting to get really cold. He also couldn’t afford any vet care including getting spayed so unfortunately I became pregnant. The man talked to someone who knew someone in rescue and soon after I was taken to a vets office to be checked. I heard they say I was definitely pregnant and that I would be going to New England into foster care. I was a little worried but hey what did I have to lose? So after about a zillion miles in a truck I arrived at my foster mom’s house and I have to tell you I am loving life. My foster mom says I am the best dog ever…. Very friendly and loves everyone. In fact my tail never stops wagging. I love kids and adults and am perfectly fine with other dogs. I just want to be with you all my life. I am completely house trained, I love walks and I love car rides. I am a good eater and I love to sleep in my doggy bed or on my mom’s bed. I just gave birth to my nine puppies and they are beautiful. I love that my puppies are warm and safe and all have full bellies. My foster mom says the first person who meets me will fall in love with me and will want me to be with them in my new forever home. Is that you? Come meet me… You wont be disappointed. I will be with you through all the good times and bad. I will never leave your side. Just email my foster mom and then come on over….. Penny will be spayed prior to adoption. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website www.fohari.org and email my foster parent for more information: jmbenchimol@aol.com Please check out our website for how to Adopt, Adoptions events, Fostering and more! www.fohari.org Normally we do not process applications unless a specific dog is selected, along with submitting a deposit of $200 using our Paypal Donate link. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
